Step 1
Email the CIMIC cemetery committee and the imam for guidance regarding the funeral bath and Janazah prayer.
Step 2
Call the CIMIC cemetery committee coordinator, br. Bahaa Fadlalla at (217) 721-6787. Additionally, you may also contact br. Mohammad Al-Heeti at 217-621-6990.
The CIMIC uses Mount Hope Cemetery for Muslim burials which is also shared by other faiths. The cemetery provides Grave opening and closing services and a concrete vault for fees. The CIMIC will coordinate the service with the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Step 3
Contact one of the two following Funeral Homes to arrange for the necessary services such as paperwork, transportation, and interment.
- Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory
Address: 1900 South Philo Road, Urbana, IL 61802
Telephone: 217-367-1122

- Leek & Sons Funeral Home

- Compare the prices and services and then choose what is more convenient to you. They range between 5k and 9k, depending on the funeral home and the services you choose. Make sure that the price quote includes the grave opening and closing by the Mount Hope Cemetery as well as the concrete vault.
- Go over what matters to you with the funeral home director, such as no embalming, neutral funeral procession signs (no cross), having people from the Mosque to wash and wrap the body in white shrouds, etc.
- Unless the family wants to provide shrouds (Kafan), shrouds are provided by the Masjid.
- Select the simplest and the least expensive casket option. Ask the funeral home to lay the body on his right side in the casket and mark the position of the head from outside. That way it will not be necessary to open the casket and tilt the body at the cemetery before the burial.
- Bear in mind that for practical reasons Janazah prayers are offered immediately following the Dhuhr Salah after the Sunnah. Communicate the services schedule with CIMIC cemetery coordinator and the Imam.
- The Imam and the Funeral support team will arrange for the funeral bath and the shrouding in the funeral home, and the Janazah Prayer.
- The Funeral Home will transport the body to the Masjid for the Janazah Prayer and from the Masjid to the cemetery for burial.
- Headstones are not needed at the time of burial but may be arranged later. They may have the mention of the First and Last Name of the deceased as well as the country of origin if deemed important by the family.
- The headstone should not rise more than one span (around 9 inches) above the ground. This is in accordance with the example of the grave of the Prophet peace be upon him.
- Headstones can be purchased at
Adams Memorials
1902 Neil Street, Champaign, IL 61820-7218
Telephone (217) 352-5322
- No structure or building is allowed on the grave. This is in accordance with the sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who forbade erecting structures over graves.
Step 4
Payment of CIMIC Cemetery Fee
CIMIC has purchased a grave plot from the Mount Hope cemetery to be dedicated for Muslim and is currently collecting fees to be used for purchasing future plot for Muslims. The CIMIC cemetery fee is $1,500 that must be paid before the service.
